Mrs. Noorjahan shaikh, 62 yrs old, female had always had issues with her eyes which never ceased to end. Both her eyes had cataract which were operated few years ago successfully else where and now for almost 2 years; she has been depressed with the gradual loss of vision in her left eye.
Her son and daughter in law had shown her to various eye specialist but none seemed to know what was wrong with her eyes. Feeling of hopelessness engulfed her. Mrs. Noorjahan Shaikh is a loving grandmother to 4 grandsons. All her grandsons had left to different countries across the globe fo higher education. One day when the youngest grandson came home to surprise time, he noticed his grandmom was not too excited about his surprise visit. Assuming it to be her increasing age, he ignored it at first. But this continued for another few days which is when he spoke to his parents about it. They mentioned how her eyes have started losing vision in left eye and she no longer likes to see or do anything because she is scared that she would go blind. Mrs. Shaikh’s daughter in law explained how they visited a lot of doctors but in vain.
Hearing this broke the grandson’s heart. He decided to help his grandmother by visiting the eye specialists. To his surprise even after visiting 3 eye specialist; none could tell what was wrong with her and just mentioned – ” something is wrong with her retina”. He got on to the internet to search for best retina specialist in Navi Mumbai and came across Dr. Yogesh Patil at Advanced Eye Hospital and Institute (AEHI).
With many hopes being shattered in the past visits to eye surgeons; he wanted to be sure this was the best for his grandmother. He checked out the details and cases Dr. Yogesh Patil treated. He got all the information on the AEHI website including information about Dr. Yogesh which made him confident and happy. He got an appointment with Dr. Yogesh Patil at AEHI and took his grandmother for the eye checkup.
After checking Mrs. Shaikh’s eyes, he diagnosed her condition as Age-related Macular Degeneration (ARMD). This was the first time her grandson mentioned that he saw a diagnosis written on his grandmothers medical record. Dr. Yogesh Patil explained what it means to have AMRD and what to expect. There are different stages for ARMd and therefore the treatment varies as per the stage. For the stage that Mrs. Shaikh was in; Laser surgery with oral medication was advised.
Today she is happy with her treatment and her eyes and cannot stop thanking Dr. Yogesh Patil and the staffs at AEHI for all that they had to offer. She says ” My grandson was right when he said AEHI is the best eye hospital in Mumbai and I am glad he pursued me to go and see Dr. Yogesh Patil. For everyone else, I was a means of making business since they would call me every now and then with experiments on me. Dr. Yogesh Patil was the first eye specialist to actually tell me what is wrong with my eyes and what is to be expected. He is the best eye specialist one can ask for. Not only is he down to earth but also makes sure he gives his patients the information that is meant for them. I can’t thank my grandson and AEHI for all they did.”
